A MOTHER who watered her partner’s cannabis plants has been fined $1000.Selena Ashlea Brown (24) pleaded guilty to cultivating cannabis and permitting use of a premises for the use of a drug or plant when she appeared in Mandurah Magistrates Court.
Police prosecutor Tamara Read said police searched a property in Lake Clifton and found 1040g of cannabis.Brown’s partner Jarrad Luke Nagtegaal pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to sell or supply and three counts of selling a prohibited drug. He is due in Perth District Court on December 6.Lawyer Trent Petheric said the couple have a nine-month-old son.He said Brown never used the drugs herself and she protested repeatedly that she did not want the drugs there.However, Brown admitted watering the plants.Mr Petheric said Brown’s actions were out of character and she had cooperated with police.Magistrate Anne Longden said Brown was in a difficult position.“Your involvement in cultivating the plants was minimal,” she said.“Your partner has admitted he was responsible for much of the cultivation.“Your references speak highly of you.”Brown was fined $1000 and ordered to pay costs. She was granted a spent conviction.
