Three senior members of staff from a Pinchbeck agricultural firm cycled 175 miles for charity to celebrate its 175th anniversary. Some 27 employees with Elsoms Seeds took part in the ride which began and finished at Gosberton Clough Church Hall.Among the riders were Elsoms’ marketing and public relations (PR) manager Grant Hawkins, vegetable seed production manager Chris Pratt and crop manager Chris Bettinson. The trio went out at 6am, with the rest of riders following at 9.30am, and they were all back by around 5.30pm.Most of the “peloton” pedalled between 25 and 50 miles, while the company chairman Roger Keeling completed 30 miles. More than £1,500 has been raised so far for two charities supported by the firm, Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance and the Alzheimer’s Society, with the overall fundraising target set at £2,500.Helen Wintle, Elsoms’ marketing and PR executive, said: “The idea came from Chris Bettinson and Grant as they talk about cycling a lot.”Chris is a member of Spalding Cycling Club so when the 175 years of Elsoms Seeds was discussed, Chris and Grant said ‘Why not do a cycle ride to celebrate it?’ “The idea just went from there, but it was a long day for all of them as most are just social or amateur cyclists.”
